Coober Pedy has a very laid back lifestyle with no traffic
lights, public transport or giant food chains such as “McDonalds” or “Pizza
Hut”.
There is a diverse population from all corners of the globe who live together in
harmony, within a population of approximately 4,000 and around 48 different
nationalities.
Sixty percent of the population live in underground homes carved out of solid
rock called dugouts to escape the searing heat during summer and the cold winter
nights.
Temperatures can soar to 50c (125f) during the hottest months in summer and fall
to around 0c during the cold winter nights.
Kangaroos, euros, bearded dragons, goannas, perenties, dingoes, wedge tailed
eagles and emus can all be found around here along with the less popular snakes of
which there are several varieties. |
